A beautiful
backdrop to life
The village of Benenden is the epitome of rural Kentish life
- a setting where the skyline is pierced by the unmistakable
white cowls of oast houses and fields stretch as far as the
eye can see. Add in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
status, the Grade II-listed St George’s church and a central
green where the cricket team plays home matches,
and you have a quintessential Wealden village.
Benenden offers a real community spirit that is so often lacking in
modern life. There are clubs and groups aplenty, from cubs, scouts and
yoga to bell ringing, boot camp exercise classes and the village’s own
amateur dramatic society. For those who are lured to the countryside for
a more peaceful way of life, what could be more appealing than simply
sitting back and listening to the sounds of village life; including church
bells ringing, leather on willow and the distant chug of steam trains
running in the Tenterden vale.
