Nature at its best

Surrounded by 6,700 acres of verdant fields and
arable farmland, Benenden offers an exceptional
connection to nature. Admire swathes of bluebells,
take part in organised woodland wide games and
see the best of the village by following one of
seven trails set out by the Benenden Amenity
     and Countryside Society.

Benenden occupies an enviable position in the High Weald Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The landscape is temptingly
accessible, with rolling hills, fields, woods and farmsteads dotted
with public footpaths. While planned trails through Hexden
Valley and Hemsted Forest are popular with walkers and cyclists,
one of Benenden’s most notable landscape features is right in the
heart of the village. The Grange is home to a famous collection
of cherry trees, bought to Kent from Japan by ornithologist
turned horticulturist, Collingwood Ingram, and their annual
blossom remains revered among Benenden residents.
